Bryan Singer Takes Aim At Red Sonja

Bryan Singer

Despite the fact that he's been something of a PR disaster in recent months, and was fired from directing Bohemian Rhapsody because of work absences and a variety of other, unspecified reasons, Bryan Singer is being granted a shot at another film, as he's in talks to make Red Sonja.

Singer, who has been the subject of lawsuits and accusations in the past, is looking to make a deal with production company Millennium, which has been trying to make a new film based on the character who first cropped up in Roy Thomas' Conan comics for Marvel (set in a similar world to Robert E. Howard's barbarian), for more than a decade. The project has burned through potential stars (Amber Heard and Rose McGowan among them), directors (Robert Rodriguez most famously) and writers as it has stomped through development hell.

Most recently, Ashley Edward Miller was hired to work on a new draft, and he already has a connection to Singer via X-Men: First Class, which the director produced.

It's likely that Millennium will face pushback over the potential hiring of Singer, an increasingly controversial figure in the film community, and one that was dropped by his agents. We'll see if this ends up happening or if the character remains stranded in limbo.
