Given his status as producer and general keeper of the flame when it comes to the** X-Me****n** franchise, this won’t really come as a surprise. But it’s true: Bryan Singer is buying Lucasfilm and making a new Star Wa… Sorry, no. That’s something else. Confirming the speculation, Singer has made a deal to direct Days Of Future Past, the sequel to X-Men: First Class.
Matthew Vaughn, who so successfully brought First Class to the screen last year, had been working on the sequel but has decided to step back to focus on other projects. Deadline reports that Vaughn’s close to a deal to step into Singer’s producer shoes for the new movie and help oversee things.
Singer, of course, doesn’t really need the oversight after his work on X-Men and X2. He’ll be bringing to life a script by Simon Kinberg that, if it keeps to the original comic’s plot, will see our heroes messing with the timelines to try to prevent a terrifying future from coming to pass.
What we know for sure is that Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence are all set to return to their roles and that the studio is planning to release the film on July 18, 2014.
As for Singer’s directorial career, his latest, J****ack The Giant Slayer, arrives in 3D on March 22 next year.
