When Empire sat down with X-franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner recently, she revealed that young mutant pic X-Men: First Class was bubbling along nicely, with a script by The OC/Chuck creatorJosh Schwartz. Now it would appear that it also has a director, in the form of Bryan Singer.

Given his long history with the X-Men movies, Singer has been mooted as the likely **First Class **directing choice for a while now, but he confirmed that he was all set for the film at the Los Angeles premiere of Avatar.

Talking to MySpace on the red carpet, Singer said, "I'm ramping up to do a movie called Jack The Giant Killer at Warner Bros, and I just yesterday signed a deal to do an X-Men: First Class Origins picture, which is kind of cool. I'm very excited."

Of course, Marvel has yet to officially confirm anything, but if you're not going to believe Singer, who can you trust?
