The thing about being a former spy is that you've got all the skills you need to ferret out the darkest secrets, find the most obscure and overlooked novels of 1987 by Leonard Wise, and use your martial skills to make sure that that story gets brought to the screen. And that's just what Pierce Brosnan is planning with The Big Biazarro, (not a spelling mistake, or anything to do with Bizarro world) a poker drama that he's producing and planning to star in.

The book tells the story of an elusive veteran card player (guess who?), who mentors a headstrong but talented protege - think The Color Of Money but with less balls.

It's all set to be written and directed by actor-turned-director Vondie Curtis Hall, who may have been responsible for Glitter, but that was six years ago and he's directed episodes of Firefly, ER, and The Shield since, so let's hope for the best. He also wrote and directed last year's Waist Deep and the underrated Gridlock'd. It's going to be produced by Brosnan and Beau St.Clair's Irish DreamTime production company, along with Maloof Motion Pictures, a company owned by the family who operate Vegas' Palms Hotel and Casino, and therefore know a thing or two about card playing.

Those jonesing for a Brosnan fix in the meantime can look forward to seeing him opposite Maria Bello and Gerard Butler in the dark thriller Butterfly on the Wheel, and he's still developing Thomas Crown sequel The Topkapi Affair.
