Brooklyn Decker Aboard Battleship

If there weren’t a long history of Hollywood casting models in films (and audiences turning out to watch them), we’d almost suspect that Victoria’s Secret was actually a factory churning out attractive ladybots just waiting to strike via popular culture. The latest model-turned-actress to strut from the pages of Sports Illustrated to the screen? Brooklyn Decker, who has joined the cast of Battleship.

The good folk over at Latino Review have breathlessly broken the news that Decker, who graced the cover of this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, will play Sam, the love interest for Taylor Kitsch’s heroic lead character. No idea whether she’ll be in the navy (yes, you can sail the seven seas...) or just the woman pining for her man to return to her once he’s finished beating up on aquatic alien invaders, but we hope for equality’s sake she gets to kick a little ET ass along the way.

Talking of equality, it does appear that director Peter Berg is trying to keep the balance of male and female hotness roughly even, with Kitsch and Decker appearing alongside True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard and music type Rhianna.

And yes, the film is about alien nasties coming to bother us because they need something precious from our oceans. Cue a big scrap on the water.

Battleship won’t invade these shores until May 18 2012.
