Britney Loses To Denzel

Denzel Washington's recent Oscar nomination made him the centre of attention this weekend in America, as his new film John Q opened at the top of the pile, beating teen queen Britney into second place submission. John Q tells the story of a father who holds an ER room hostage in an attempt to persuade them to carry out a much-needed heart transplant operation on his son. It's not your average No 1 box office fodder, but given the poor word of mouth on Britney's movie debut, Crossroads, there wasn't any competition for Denzel this weekend. Q pulled in over $20 million, while Britney was left with a secondary - but still fairly respectable - $14 million cut of the weekend's take.
