After making a splash at this year’s Sundance Film Festival with the one-two punch of respected indie pics Another Earth and Sound of My Voic****e, writer/producer/actress Brit Marling is a woman very much in demand. She’s already finished work on Nicholas Jarecki’s financial thriller Arbitrage and now Robert Redford has snapped her up for The Company You Keep.
Marling is in talks for the female lead in the film, which finds Redford as a former militant who has been in hiding off the grid for years from the FBI. But when a dogged young newshound (Shia LaBeouf) uncovers his identity, Redford must make a run for it.
While Variety reports on the latest development, credit for first breaking word of Redford’s interest in Marling must go to Vulture, which had the news last week. That report also mentioned that she’d also been considering offers from Steven Soderbergh for stripper pic Magic Mike and Christopher McQuarrie, who wanted her to co-star with Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher adaptation One Shot.
With Nick Nolte also on board to star, Redford will start shooting Company next month.
