Having already won some awards from festival audiences and elsewhere, Room has been drawing lots of attention, particularly for stars Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay. Their mother-son relationship is on full display in the new trailer for the film.

Room stars Larson as Joy, a young woman who has been held in captivity for years by a man we only occasionally glimpse at first known as Old Nick (Sean Bridgers). In that time, she’s given birth to a son, Jack (Tremblay), who has only known life inside the cramped shed he and his mother call home. Despite her seemingly hopeless situation, Joy – usually known just as Ma by her child – has done her best to make his world as fun and imaginative as possible, all the while aching for the real life she knew beyond the walls.

Frank’s Lenny Abrahamson directs this one, with Emma Donoghue adapting her own novel for the screen and the cast featuring Joan Allen, William H. Macy and Matt Gordon. Room will be out in the UK on January 15.
