The huge success of Bridget Jones's Diary has encouraged Working Title to put plans for the movie's sequel into overdrive. 'We own the rights to The Edge of Reason,' a Working Title spokesman told Empire Online this morning. When we asked about a quote from the company's co-chairman Eric Fellner in the Sunday Telegraph, that he would be chairing a meeting this week to plan the sequel, the spokesman admitted that; 'He's the chairman, I'd listen to what he says. He's probably sitting down with Universal.' There are also encouraging reports that Renee Zellweger is on the verge of signing to the project - the Telegraph reports that the actress will join the sequel cast, but only on the assurance that she doesn't have to put on weight again. The paper quotes a casting agent for the movie as saying; 'It appears possible to persuade Renee to appear again if she is not made to put on as many pounds. Bridget is thinner in the second book.' The film, which took the number three box office slot for America's Easter weekend with a total figure of $10.7 million, looks set to be a massive money-spinner for the British production company.
