It's cheatin' hearts and islands in the stream all around for Jeff Bridges, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Robert Duvall, who have signed on to star in Crazy Heart for writer-director Scott Cooper.

Based on the novel by Thomas Cobb, the story concerns an alcoholic, down on his luck country singer, who gets a chance at redemption when he's offered a supporting gig for a former protege who's gone on to stardom, and begins a tentative romance with a reporter (Gyllenhaal). But can he be depended upon not to bugger it all up? Well, probably not.

The most interesting thing about the film, aside from the casting of His Dudeness, is the involvement of country supremo T-Bone Burnett, who previously handled the music for the likes of Walk The Line and O Brother, Where Art Thou?. Shooting is due to start next month in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
