Brett Ratner is negotiating to bring the comic book series Harbinger to the big screen. Little known to the world at large, Harbinger, from the Valiant stable, was a popular '90s series about a humans with paranormal powers that they can only harness when taught by an omega harbinger, one who possesses a full ranger of harbinger powers. The story follows Peter Stanchek, a teenage omega harbinger who becomes involved in a battle with an older harbinger who wants to use his powers to put the world right, whatever the cost to humanity, and wants Peter to help him. Did you follow much of that?

Alexandra Milchan, Ratner's producer, describes the movie as "in the vein of a young Blade Runner". Ratner has apparently been looking for a superhero franchise that he can start from scratch, rather than continue the work of another director, as he did on X-Men: The Last Stand. The project is currently being written and will likely follow Ratner's planned biopic of Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner.

This sounds like a good fit for Ratner. Though a capable director with a very good visual sense, he's struggled to establish his own style. This kind of material, with its scope for big action and glossy visuals, should play to his strengths.
