As they keep building the world of the S.H.I.E.LD. TV series (or at least its pilot), Joss Whedon and his team have slowly been recruiting actors to play the various agents. Now Brett Dalton has stepped aboard to play Agent Grant.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Grant is a skilled rising star in the agency, calm under fire and a sharp shooter, but terrible with people. Sounds like he’ll fit in perfectly.

Dalton joins a cast that already includes Ming-Na (Agent Melinda May), Elizabeth Henstridge (Agent Gemma Simmons) and Ian De Caestecker (Agent Leo Fitz). Oh, and some bloke called Clark Gregg playing some bloke called Agent Phil Coulson, who you may have heard us talk about once or eleventy billion times.

Whedon is scripting the pilot alongside brother Jed and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen, two of his co-conspirators on Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.

The show itself will follow the agents as they deal with various crises, often related to superheroes and their powers. Though, given the budget and scheduling, don’t expect Tony Stark or any of the Avengers to show up except perhaps during sweeps week.

Dalton has scored a few TV guest roles, including work on dramas such as Blue Bloods and Army Wives. He has a part on TV movie Killing Lincoln, set to hit US screens next year but not to be confused with Spielberg's Lincoln.
