Paul Greengrass’ Green Zone – the Iraq-set thriller starring Matt Damon – has been filming since January, but only now has the final piece of the casting jigsaw fallen into place.
Brendan Gleeson has signed on to star alongside Damon and the already-cast Greg Kinnear, Jason Isaacs and Amy Ryan in the thriller, which is currently shooting on location in Morocco, before moving to London.
Gleeson will play Brown, a high-ranking and wily American soldier who becomes inextricably linked to Damon’s character, Met Delta officer Roy Miller, during the hunt for WMDs in the immediate aftermath of the American occupation of Baghdad and the fall of Saddam Hussein.
The cast for this movie, which is loosely based on the book, Imperial Life In The Emerald City, just gets better and better. Gleeson is a fantastic actor, and it’ll be a pleasure to see him share several key scenes with Damon.
Green Zone doesn’t yet have a release date, but we’d be surprised if it didn’t surface sometime in early 2009. Expect great things.
