After the horror that was Furry Vengeance, you’ll forgive us for worrying that any film combining Brendan Fraser with a comedy title might not turn out all that well – once burned, as they say. Still, we don’t want to be overly judgemental, so we’ll wait and see on news that the actor has signed a deal to star in Whole Lotta Sole.
Besides, the writer/director behind the comedy heist film is Terry George, who brought the world Hotel Rwanda and Reservation Road.
George wrote the script with Thomas Gallagher, and the plot follows a young man getting himself into hot water when he tries to rob a fish shop in order to pay off a gambling debt. Trouble is, the shop’s manager (Fraser) has his own issues, since he’s on the run from his gangster father-in-law. And when the situation quickly deteriorates into a hostage situation, that’s when the comedy cranks up. At least, that’s the plan…
The shoot will see George returning to his Northern Irish roots with $5.5 million budget in hand. Fraser, meanwhile, also has plans to star in Neil LaBute’s next film, Seconds of Pleasure, which conveniently happens to shoot in the UK.
