Not to be confused with Alex Proyas' abandoned Miltonic fantasy epic, the Paradise Lost currently heading into production is a drama about the notorious drug kingpin Pablo Escobar. As previously reported, it's the directorial debut of Andrea Di Stefano, and has Benicio Del Toro and Josh Hutcherson attached at the top of the cast. They're now joined by current indie hot-stuff Brady Corbet.
As a youngster, Corbet played Alan Tracy in Jonathan Frakes' brightly-coloured Thunderbirds, but he's since taken a darker route. In recent years he's inhabited uncomfortable roles in Michael Haneke's US version of Funny Games, Sean Durkin's Martha Marcy May Marlene, and Lars von Trier's Melancholia. We'll shortly see him in the title role in Antonio Campos' Parisian noir Simon Killer.
In Paradise Lost, he'll be playing Hutcherson's brother, although it's unclear how large a part that is. Hutcherson, we're told, is travelling in Colombia when he meets the love of his life, only to find that she's Escobar's niece and he's getting close to some rather unwelcome family business. We'd guess that Corbet will be on the receiving end of some calls for help...
Del Toro, of course, is playing Escobar, and shooting starts in Panama shortly. Whether this project will cause problems for Joe Carnahan's long-mooted but much back-burnered Killing Pablo remains to be seen.
