Director Karyn Kusama is gearing up to start shooting crime thriller Destroyer, her latest film, in Los Angeles next week. She has Nicole Kidman aboard in the lead and is adding Bradley Whitford, Toby Kebbell and Scoot McNairy to the ensemble.
Written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, Destroyer will see Kidman as LAPD detective Erin Bell who, earlier in her career, was placed undercover with a cult-like gang in the California desert. The case ended in tragedy, but when the leader of the gang remerges on to law enforcement's radar years later, she has to work her way through the surviving members to track them down, confronting the demons of her own past.
As with other cast announcements – Sebastian Stan and Tatiana Maslany were previously confirmed – there is no information on what the new arrivals will be playing. But it's clear that Kusama is aiming to build a great cast around her star.
Whitford will next be seen in Steven Spielberg's The Post (out 19 January) and has worked on Godzilla: King Of Monsters, which roars into cinemas in March 2019. Kebbell has The Angel, The Hurricane Heist (6 April) and Banking On Mr. Toad on the way, while McNairy can be seen in Netflix's Godless and shows up in comedy The Legacy Of A Whitetail Deer Hunter, out next year. As for Destroyer, the film has yet to lock in a release date, but should see screens in 2018.
