It’s not every TV spin-off that can claim to be a direct continuation of the movie before it, but the Limitless-spawned show set to debut this autumn in the States apparently can. The series has secured the services of Bradley Cooper, who starred in the 2011 thriller.

Given his increasingly busy film schedule – he hasn’t been a regular lead on a TV show since the days of Alias and the sadly short-lived Kitchen Confidential – Cooper won’t be in every episode. He’s scheduled for recurring appearances (probably four or five in the first season) reprising his film role as Edward Morra.

The show will actually focus on Brian Finch (Jake McDorman), who discovers the mysterious, brain-boosting powers of the NZT drug and is then roped into solving complex cases for the FBI. Yet unknown to his law enforcement bosses, he’s also being influenced by Morra, who is still a regular user of the drug. Since the events of the film, he has also become a senator with ambitions towards the presidency.

Jennifer Carpenter, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Hill Harper and Dillon Mathews will all be part of the cast for the series, which saw Marc Webb directing the pilot and the movie’s director Neil Burger attached to oversee at least one of the others. It’ll air Tuesdays on US network CBS, but there’s no indication yet of if, when or where it will show up in the UK.
