Given how much he likes working with directors who have a singular style, it's almost surprising that Bradley Cooper hasn't yet teamed up with Paul Thomas Anderson. That's set to change, as he's now in talks to star in the filmmaker's next drama.
Anderson hasn't revealed the film's name, and has only offered a few sketchy details about the plot. We do know it'll involve multiple storylines revolving around a child actor attending high school in the San Fernando Valley, just north of Los Angeles, in the 1970s.
Quite what Cooper will be up to in the film is anyone's guess at this point – the kid's father, perhaps? – but assuming he makes a deal, Anderson will have to wait regardless. He's looking to shoot in the autumn, but that will really depend on the Covid situation in the Valley, which already curtailed a planned spring/summer production.
And the actor is busy for a while anyway, as he has to finish work on Guillermo del Toro's Nightmare Alley, itself a victim of the pandemic shutdown.
