No, Candy Store is not the developing Candy Land film with a new title. Nor is it the sequel to Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. Instead, it’s the new film from Syriana writer-director Stephen Gaghan and one that is attracting interest from the likes of Brad Pitt and Denzel Washington. So probably not a story about the delights of sugary treats, then.
Lionsgate is backing the movie, which apparently has solid roles for two leading men. The story follows a highly trained deep-cover operative who finally returns to a more normal life as a beat cop on Brooklyn only to discover that the global criminal organisation he was infiltrating is operating in his new backyard. Naturally, he starts taking the fight to them once more.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Pitt and Washington are still considering the roles and no deals have been made yet. But given Gaghan’s history, you’ve got to figure they’ll be seriously interested.
Gaghan has most recently been doing script work for other people, including on M Night Shyamalan’s latest, After Earth, and thriller Dead Spy Running. But he’s also been developing several projects to direct, with Candy Store the one that appears to be coming together fastest.
