Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard in Allied

Could Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard be the new Bogart/Bergman in Robert Zemeckis’ World War II thriller Allied? It’s partly set in Casablanca, its stars bring matinee glamour and the Nazis are involved. Time will tell if it can live up to those vaulted standards. In the meantime, it has a first teaser trailer that you can watch below.

This one sees Pitt play an Allied intelligence officer called Max Vatan. In North Africa in 1942 he meets Cotillard’s resistance fighter on a potentially deadly mission behind German lines. Back in London later, the pair rekindle their affair as the bombs fall.

There will be subterfuge; there will be men in trenchcoats; there will be double-crossing. Actually, we don't know that for a fact, it's more of a guess. Definitely some subterfuge, though.

Steven ‘Peaky Blinders’ Knight wrote the script for a wartime thriller with an old-fashioned romance at its heart. Providing support for Cotillard and Pitt are Jared Harris, Lizzy Caplan and Matthew Goode. Allied will be out in the UK in November.
