Brad Pitt clearly didn’t get as many Nazi scalps has he hoped in Inglourious Basterds. Because he’s heading back to World War II, albeit this time via the vehicle of David Ayer’s new film, Fury.
'Vehicle' seems to be the apt word here, since Fury has nothing to do with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick. Instead, it’ll take place in 1945, as the Nazi regime collapses. The title is the name of a tank crewed by a heroic American squad as they fight their way through desperate German lines.
When the project was announced in February, Ayer said he aimed to do for war films what his End Of Watch did for police thrillers. "What these men went through is worthy of a complex, honest portrayal. This will have incredible, visceral action and complex rich characters. I plan to bring tank combat to life in a way that lands with a modern audience.”
Nabbing Pitt is a big win for Ayer and his team and the cameras should be rolling in the autumn. Pitt is fighting an enemy of an entirely different type this summer when he appears in World War Z (out June 21). Ayer, meanwhile, will be keeping weaponry as a theme for Arnold Schwarzenegger action thriller Ten, which lands next January across the pond and hopefully just after that over here.
