If the idea of Brad Pitt putting a growly spin on a military commander not realising quite what he's in for appeals to you, then, following on from the teaser earlier this month, here comes the full trailer for War Machine.
Animal Kingdom and The Rover’s David Michôd directs, and he adapted the script from late journalist Michael Hastings’ book The Operators: The Wild And Terrifying Inside Story Of America’s War In Afghanistan. The result is an absurdist comedy drama that sees Pitt playing General McMahon, a top commander in the US armed forces, overseeing the conflict in Afghanistan, a mission that is riddled with problems, corruption and cock-ups. Despite his swaggering confidence and seeming desire to make things better for the local populace, he doesn't realise quite the quagmire he's headed for. It's all loosely based on real-life General Stanley McChrystal, whose healthy ego ultimately led to his downfall.
With a cast that includes Tilda Swinton, Ben Kingsley, Anthony Michael Hall, Will Poulter, Lakeith Stanfield, Alan Ruck and Scoot McNairy, it promises to blend humour and anger in equal measures, and is set to hit Netflix on 26 May.
