The needle on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island director Brad Peyton’s Luck-O-Meter seems permanently set to “Good” at the moment. Not only is he top of the list to direct the next Journey adventure, but he’s also recently been attached to handle Warner Bros.’ cinematic take on DC comics bounty hunter Lobo. You might think that between those two, he’d be busy enough not to worry about working on developing anything else, but you would be wrong: he’s in negotiations to handle San Andreas 3D.
It’s hardly a shocking development since New Line, which produced Journey 2, is also behind the new high concept disaster film. Originally written by Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore, and recently polished courtesy of Allan Loeb, San Andreas focuses on a massive earthquake hitting California. Aside from that, we know very little in terms of plot, but we’re guessing lots of running and screaming will be involved. Plus, as with Roland Emmerich’s destructogasms, does anyone really worry that much about the plot mechanics?
If he does end up making the movie, Peyton will have $100 million or so to play with. But we’re betting New Line will want him to focus on the new Journey outing as his next project.
