If you’re planning to develop a film that tackles a tough subject such as one young man’s descent into the drug world, who better to help get it going than Requiem for a Dream's Darren Aronofsky? At least, that’s what director Brad Furman is hoping as he gets to work on his next film, Intricate.
Furman has won the support of Aronofsky and **Black Swan **producer Scott Franklin for the film, which Furman will start work on for their Protozoa Pictures company.
Intricate, which has been inspired by a true story, follows what happens when a promising college basketball player in 1990s New York fails to live up to his career goals. Living down the failure, he becomes entangled in the narcotics underworld.
It’s not the first time Furman has focused on a city for his movies – his latest film, Mathew McConaughey-starring legal thriller The Lincoln Lawyer, features some choice chunks of Los Angeles, albeit not the ones that you usually see on screen.
"The movie is about where this man begins and where he ends, with New York City as an important character," Furman tells the LA Times’ 24 Frames blog.
There’s no word on casting yet, especially since the film is still at an embryonic stage and Furman will be out promoting Lincoln Lawyer (which we’ve seen and will post a review for next week) for the immediate future.
