Brad Pitt and Edward Norton are re-teaming for the first time since 1999's Fight Club, but it will be on the small screen. They've set up a project with HBO and National Geographic to co-produce and play the leads in a ten part miniseries about American explorers Lewis and Clark – the men who conducted the first overland expedition west across America to the Pacific Ocean.
It's all thanks to the book "Undaunted Courage: Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, And The Opening Of The American West". A favourite of both actors, it came up in the course of a conversation between Norton and National Geographic producer Tim Kelly, and the production ball began rolling soon after.
It's uncommon (although certainly not unheard of) to get two A-list actors into a TV miniseries these days, but both stars were adamant that the production was right for the format. Norton told Variety's Michael Fleming "We both always agreed that compressing that story into a feature length film ruined the spirit of it… so we sat down and said, 'How can we really do this justice?'"
There may be a slight wait before the program reaches the small screen, though – both actors are involved with multiple projects. Pitt is still working on The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, Babel, Chad Schmidt and Benjamin Button, while Norton is currently filming The Painted Veil, and has Motherless Brooklyn and Pride And Glory in the works. We assume National Geographic are ready to go, though.
