Awards season rumbles on across the pond, and while no single critics’ group can ever be said to be a totally reliable predictor of big winners come Oscar night, **Boyhood’**s success so far is a positive sign that it will at least be turning up in the nominations list. The latest two groups to give it their highest accolade are the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the Boston Society Of Film Critics.
Boston also handed Richard Linklater Best Director and a tie on Best Screenplay, while the cast got the Ensemble award. Other acting honours went to Michael Keaton for Birdman and Marion Cotillard for her performances in Two Days, One Night and The Immigrant. Supporting actor-wise, J.K. Simmons was rewarded for Whiplash (UK audiences will have to wait for next month to see why), and Emma Stone for Birdman, which was the other half of the tie for Best Screenplay, with Emmanuel Lubezki won Best Cinematography.
There was more of a surprise in the animation category, where Studio Ghibli’s The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya won over more mainstream choices such as The Lego Movie.
