Described variously as 'slickly produced pornography for the sports car lover' and 'the junkiest film in history to star three Academy Award winners,' Jerry Bruckheimer's Gone in 60 Seconds has gone straight to the number one slot in the American charts, but doesn't promise to stay there for long. The movie has received mainly poor reviews (for a wide range of reviews, check out rottentomatoes.com) and the film's star, Cage, has been singled out for criticism. But one member of the cast can be excused a smile at the reviews - our very own Vinnie Jones. Jones's performance has been one of the few singled out for praise, in particular from trade mag Variety. 'Former soccer star Vinnie Jones stands out from the crowd of background players as a hulking mute who has no trouble getting his points across.' said the title's review, while the Toronto Sun was equally praiseworth, called Vinnie 'much-needed comic relief'. And just to show us Brits don't mind occasionally patting ourselves on the back, the Times went in for uncharacteristic praise, applauding Vinnie's role for inflicting 'wonderfully characteristic mayhem'. Nice one, my son.
