Johnny Depp's spine-tingling East End accent failed to scare off American audiences this weekend, who turned out for a taste of Victorian London in chilling tale From Hell. Albert and Allen Hughes' re-telling of the Jack The Ripper murders took pole position with a modest $11.3 million, followed closely by Riding In Cars With Boys and Rod Lurie's Contender follow up, The Last Castle. Based on the excellent graphic novel, From Hell charts the infamous Whitechapel murders from the point of view of Scotland Yard investigator Frederick Aberline (Depp). With the finger of guilt pointing in some unpredictable directions, Aberline falls for street-walker Mary Kelly and redoubles his effort to keep her and her ilk from the ripper's knife.
