Friday was a good day for James Bond, as Quantum of Solace made its way straight to the top of the UK box office and smashed a few records along the way.
Yes, with £4.9m on its first day of release, Quantum of Solace has the highest Friday box-office ever, easily overtaking the previous holder, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. That said, the biggest single day opening ever is still Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which took £5.3m on its opening day in 2004.
But it remains the case that Quantum of Solace performed brilliantly, taking 42% more than Casino Royale's opening day, and going on to make an impressive £14.45m at the UK box office, where it took a whopping 70% of all business this weekend. It also posted the highest ever opening for a Bond film in France, while its Swedish debut was the fourth-biggest ever in that country, behind The Return of the King, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Pirates of the Carbbean: At World's End.
So it's a good day for James Bond who, we imagine, would be stirred but not shaken by his success so far.
