A great idea?

Bollywood Remaking The Italian Job

It's not just Hollywood that plunders overseas classics. Following (among others) Hindi versions of Reservoir Dogs, Collateral and The Usual Suspects, get ready for Bollywood's take on **The Italian Job.

Part of the shoot has already taken place in Goa, with locations in New Zealand and Russia on the itinerary for next year. Not so very Italian then, but producer Vikram Malhotra says the film will be faithful to the 1969 original: "It's a suitable adaptation keeping in mind the Indian audience sensibilities." Mumbai critic Anupama Chopra says that "Indianising" films used to mean toning down the violence, but that audiences are now "much more open".

There are few cast details, but we do know that superstar Abhishek Bachchan will take the Michael Caine role, and that the film will up the female quotient, with parts included for two "heroines". Big song and dance numbers as the Mini Coopers tear around the international streets are, at this point, unconfirmed.

Can this top Hollywood's own** Italian Job** remake from 2003? We'll have to wait until the second half of next year to find out.

Our attempt at translating "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" into Hindi using Google has given us "आप केवल खूनी दरवाजे उड़ा चाहिए रहे हैं". We're happy to be corrected below.
