Since long-time Star Trek star and director Jonathan Frakes announced that he may not be able to take the helm for Star Trek X, speculation has been high as to whether another member of the cast would step up to the plate. However, the powers that be have looked elsewhere to fill the job and it has now been confirmed that Executive Decision and US Marshals director Stuart Laird will boldly go where Frakes and many others have gone before. Having most recently claimed a producing credit on Tomb Raider, Laird will be placing himself in the hot-seat by taking on the next instalment in this fanatically-followed franchise, especially if it does turn out to be the last Trek film with the current Enterprise. Written by Gladiator co-writer John Logan, Star Trek X will see the crew taking on some old favourites: the insidious Romulans.
