For some, he will forever be the tragic Robb Stark of Game Of Thrones. Others have embraced him as the troubled protection officer David Budd of Bodyguard. Now Richard Madden is targeting the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with The Wrap reporting that he's in talks for a role in The Eternals.

Created by Jack Kirby in 1976 (and famously updated in a miniseries in 2006 by Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr.), the saga began millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans, creating the super-powered and near-immortal beings and a more monstrous off-shoot known as the Deviants. The two races moved behind the scenes throughout human history.

Angelina Jolie is on board, likely playing a powerful character named Sersei who harbours resentment towards humanity. Korean actor Dong-seok Ma and Kumail Nanjiani are also in talks, and, like Madden, their roles for now are a mystery.

Chloé Zhao's on to direct the film, working from a script by Matthew K. Firpo and Ryan Firpo. The Eternals will form part of Phase Four of the MCU, but there's no release date on the books yet. As for Madden, he'll next pop up in Rocketman, due out in the UK on 22 May.
