Writer-director Will Gluck is taking pains to fill out the Annie remake’s cast with solid talent. That includes even the smaller roles, as Bobby Cannavale has just signed on to co-star in the film.
The new take on the musical, overseen by Sony, Will Smith and Jay Z, finds Beasts Of The Southern Wild’s Quevenzhane Wallis as the titular orphaned moppet, who warbles about looking for a new family and a way out of the institution run by the mean Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz).
Her best chance appears to be via the wealthy Benjamin Stacks (Jamie Foxx), who in addition to being loaded is also making a run for political office. It’s here that Cannavale’s character comes in, as he’ll be a tough-nut advisor.
Gluck is at work on the screenplay, polishing up work by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna. With Rose Byrne also in the cast, Annie is set for release in the US on December 25, 2014 and February 13, 2015 over here. Cannavale is back on our screens this week in Lovelace and will also be seen in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, out on September 27.
