Blunt Entering A Five-Year Engagement?

Jason Segel wants her hand in marriage

Blunt Entering A Five-Year Engagement?

Since she got married this summer to John “lucky bastard” Krasinski, it seems like Emily Blunt has suddenly become linked to several thousand films about engagement. Okay, two. We brought word back in September about her attachment to Engagement Games, and now Vulture is reporting that Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller are after her for their new romantic comedy Five-Year Engagement.

There aren’t that many details around about the film just yet – aside from the fact that it “charts the ups-and-downs of a couple who get engaged.” Yeah, cheers: we think we could have worked that out.

Since this counts as one of those increasingly infamous “offer” stories, we’re going to list it strictly in the Rumour column for now. But according to Vulture’s story, there’s more to this than the usual tale of filmmakers looking for known names to fill roles. The pair had offered Blunt the role of Jackie Q in **Forgetting Sarah Marshall **follow-up Get Him to the Greek, but 20th Century Fox’s contract option meant that she owed them one more movie after The Devil Wears Prada. Hence, she had to skip Greek (and, if the reports were accurate, Iron Man 2) and show up in Gulliver’s Travels. Which, in an odd coincidence, also starred Segel and was written by Stoller. Rose Byrne, meanwhile, took on the Greek job.

Now, though, once Segel is finished working with the Muppets, we bet he and Stoller will gear up work on Five-Year Engagement for Universal.
