Bad news if you're a fan of the twisted family drama that pervades Netflix's Bloodline, as the streaming service has announced that the third season of the show, due to debut next year, will be the last.

Set in the Florida Keys, the show chronicles the misadventures of the wealthy Rayburn family. All seems to be well among them until eldest son Danny (Ben Mendelsohn) returns home in the first season and starts to reveal some of the darker secrets the clan has kept buried for years. Soon the family is tearing itself apart as skeletons come rattling out of the closet. The second season continued the drama, and the series was renewed for a third in July.

Word that Netflix has not only told production company studio that it'll end but also the third run will be reduced to 10 episodes from 13 is disappointing news for both fans and the show's creators. Executive producer Daniel Zelman told The Hollywood Reporter that they had several more seasons in mind. "We're doing a TV series, so even in our own mind, we're asking ourselves, 'Does this series have seasons in it?'" Zelman said. "When we pitched it and we thought about it, we were thinking five to six seasons down the line because we wanted to make sure it could hold that much material. So we certainly have ideas for where everything could go and hopefully where everything will go."

This development doesn't preclude the producers and Sony from shopping the series elsewhere, but rising costs may not make it an attractive proposition for another channel.
