Given that it's sparked by an incident with a plane, features Jude Law as a handler figure who may or may not be trustworthy and a woman – in this case, Blake Lively – rising from tragedy to kick major ass, there's almost a Captain Marvel vibe to this first trailer for The Rhythm Section. But this appears to be more Lively going the Bourne route. See the footage below.
The Rhythm Section finds Lively as Stephanie Patrick, an ordinary woman on a path of self-destruction after her family is tragically killed in a plane crash. When she discovers that the crash was not an accident, Stephanie enters a dark, complex world to seek revenge on those responsible and find her own redemption.
Reed Moreno, one of the regular directors of The Handmaid's Tale is behind the camera here, with a script by Mark Burnell, adapting his novel. And you might also notice the presence of Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson in the credits, too, which is intriguing given their usual 007 focus.
Sterling K. Brown, Daniel Mays and Raza Jaffrey are in the cast, and The Rhythm Section will smash its way into UK cinemas (a little later than planned due to Lively sustaining an injury during production) later this year.
