It's all go for Martin Campbell on the Green Lantern adaptation right now. Thursday saw the film get the official green light from Warners and now the female lead has been cast: Blake Lively will be the Lantern's love interest.

Lively, usually to be found starring in soapy US TV drama Gossip Girl, was one of several candidates that the lads over at Latino Review revealed were under consideration for the part.

Carol Ferris is the woman in charge of her father's aerospace company, and who hires cocky test pilot Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds), the man fated to become intergalactic law keeper Green Lantern.

According to the Heat Vision Blog, the role was actually aimed at a slightly older actress (since a. Reynolds is in his 30s and b. the role requires you to believe she runs a massive company) but Lively nabbed the part thanks to a solid audition and her work in Ben Affleck's latest film, The Town.

Now we just need to know who will be playing the likes of the chief villain, Sinestro. The film itself will arrive in June 2011.
