"Replicants, like any other machine, are either a benefit or a hazard..." So spoke Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) in Blade Runner – and those words are echoed in this first teaser trailer for Blade Runner 2049, the first sequel to that film a mere thirty-ish years later.
Denis Villeneuve is directing this much-anticipated sequel, and he's bringing along his semi-regular cinematographer, the great Roger Deakins, for the ride. This short teaser shows some of the fruit of that labour with some astonishing shots of a dusty future-LA and the familiar rainy neo-noir streets.
Harrison Ford is reprising his role as the LAPD 'blade runner' assigned to 'retire' the genentically engineered 'replicants'. In 2049, Deckard has been missing for 30 years, and it takes a new Blade Runner known only as 'K' – played by Ryan Gosling – to track him down.
Here's the first official synopsis: Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis and Jared Leto are also due to star in the film, which arrives on 6 October, 2017, where we will hopefully see things you people wouldn't believe.
