Takashi Miike is not a director afraid to push the boundaries when it comes to violence on screen. And he's found the perfect outlet for that with his 100th – not a misprint – movie, Blade Of The Immortal. See the red band trailer below, and be aware that the red definitely stands for "blood red"...
Takuya Kimura stars as Samurai Manji, who has taken a lot of lives, both innocent and guilty, and now lives life in feudal Japan as a criminal. After being cursed with immortality until he kills enough evil men, Manji meets a young girl (Hana Sugisaki) who enlists him to be her bodyguard. Swearing loyalty, protection and vengeance against the group of sword fighters who slaughtered her family, the unlikely duo set on a remarkable quest to make right against those who did them wrong.
Adapted by Tetsuya Oishi from Hiroako Samura's manga, the film finds all manner of ways to damage people with swords and other weapons. Limbs will be lopped off (and grow back in some cases) and the tone is distinctly heightened. The film will premiere in the States at Fantastic Fest before hitting screens there on 3 November. It'll then bring its particular brand of action madness to the UK on 24 November.
