Despite the title, Blackfish is not a film about Ser Brynden Tully, as played by Clive Russell on Game Of Thrones. It is in fact a searing, tough-to-watch documentary about the scandalous treatment of killer whales in captivity. The trailer is online over at Apple.
The film, which will likely put you in mind of T****he Cove, scored plenty of acclaim at Sundance for the tough questions raised, the never-before-seen footage and the emotional trigger of the story about a trainer at San Diego’s Sea World who was killed by Tilikum, an orca who has also been blamed for two other deaths.
Trainers, experts and some of those who were responsible for capturing the creatures in the wild all contribute to this one, which might just make you think twice about what happens to these huge, soulful but ultimately still dangerous creatures. As the tagline runs – never capture what you can’t control.
And yes, we know that orca aren't fish, but they *are *sometimes called "blackfish" so please don't write us letters of correction.
Blackfish is out in the US on July 19 and arrives in the UK on July 26.
