We've known for a while that Ryan Coogler's much-anticipated Black Panther sequel, subtitled Wakanda Forever would be on the way. At a Black Widow premiere event, Marvel boss Kevin Feige told Variety that Coogler and the returning cast members have now started work on the film in Atlanta.
Of course, that returning ensemble – Marvel has declined to confirm anyone, but Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba and Angela Bassett are all expected to return – does not include the late, lamented Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa.
"It’s clearly very emotional without Chad," Feige said Tuesday night. "But everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans. We’re going to do it in a way that would make Chad proud."
No one is yet saying what will happen with the mantle of the title character, and who it might pass to (if it passes at all), but given his deep feelings for the world of Wakanda, we trust that Coogler will find a way to make it work. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently scheduled to arrive in UK cinemas on 8 July next year.
