The first trailer for Marvel's Black Panther, which gives Chadwick Boseman's royal hero his proper solo outing due, was viewed many, many times online. With good reason, because it was great. And now Entertainment Weekly has some fascinating images from the movie.
It's clear that director Ryan Coogler and his team have created quite the visual splendor for the new movie, exploring T'Challa's (Boseman) loyalties and how his life ties in with his superheroic activities. "What I think we landed on was sort of a cross between James Bond and The Godfather," producer Nate Moore tells EW. "A big, operatic family drama centered on a world of international espionage. So hopefully we’re getting the best of both worlds."
Co-written by Coogler and Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther takes us back to Wakanda, which we've briefly glimpsed in Marvel movies past, most notably at the end of Captain America: Civil War. But now we get a proper look at the place and its people, as T'Challa formally ascends to rule the kingdom in the wake of his father's death and faces new challenges from within and without.
Notable among the threats are Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan, reuniting with his Fruitvale Station and Creed director), Winston Duke as M'Baku and Andy Serkis as the vengeful Ulysses Klaue. For more images and info on the film, head to Entertainment Weekly's site.
Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Sterling K. Brown and Martin Freeman are also in the cast for the film, which heads into UK cinemas on 16 February.
