Tales Of The Black Freighter, the bleak-as-the-apocalypse comic-book vignette within Watchmen, is being released on DVD as a companion piece to the main feature, and MTV has a short trailer to give a taste of what the animated story will look like.

Tales Of The Black Freighter is not cheery stuff - black is definitely the operative word - and by the looks of this, there hasn't been much gingering up from the graphic novel, as the Gerard Butler-voiced Mariner's corpse raft shows. Blue Peter has nothing on this guy when it comes to working with what's handy.
Tales Of The Black Freighter hits our shelves on April 6 in DVD and Blue-ray format, weighing in at about 22 minutes. Also included is a 36-minute pseudo-documentary looking at Nite Owl's autobiography, Under The Hood.
