Since returning to our screens after a 4-year break from acting, Michael Fassbender is really getting into the groove of playing a spy. First, there was David Fincher’s The Killer, in which he was a ruthless, methodical assassin on the hunt for revenge. More recently, he took to the small screen in The Agency, as a covert CIA operative. Next, he’s appearing opposite Cate Blanchett as they play two spy spouses in Steven Soderbergh’s explosive, star-studded Black Bag. Watch the trailer below.
Fassbender and Blanchett play George and Kathryn Woodhouse, a pair of legendary intelligence agents who are as devoted to each other as they are to their jobs, keeping secrets aplenty from each other so as to maintain both. When George is drawn into a mission that involves investigating Kathryn to determine whether she stole something extremely valuable, he ends up having to choose between his marriage or his country.
Soderbergh – who we recently learned will never direct a Western – is helming this one, from a script by frequent collaborator David Koepp. The stellar cast is rounded out by Pierce Brosnan, former Moneypenny Naomie Harris, Furiosa’s Tom Burke, Back To Black and Industry star Marisa Abela, and The Gray Man’s Regé-Jean Page.
Black Bag is in UK cinemas from 14 March 2025.
