No project that has Dwayne Johnson involved is ever likely to just creep out into the world without making a splash. So it is with Black Adam, which has the artist occasionally known as The Rock starring in the title role. The movie's PR team took over New York's Times Square to unveil a 29 July 2022 release date – and you can see the announcement via Johnson's Instagram account.

Black Adam, which introduces the Shazam antagonist-turned-antihero to the DC movie universe, also features Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Noah Centineo, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell and recent announcement Pierce Brosnan in the cast. Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the film, which is scheduled to kick off shooting in the next couple of weeks after several pandemic-inflicted delays.

The story is largely under wraps, though it should feature some of Black Adam's origin story and does bring in the Justice Society of America, who don't necessarily see eye to eye with how he dishes out his brand of justice.

That July release date is only confirmed for the US right now, but we'll learn soon enough if the UK will get the film day and date or close to.
