He's been a mythical creature, a singing suitor, the world's most famous secret agent and a wealth of characters in between, but Pierce Brosnan has yet to appear in one of the big studio comic book adaptations. That all changes now, as he's snagged the role of Dr. Fate for Black Adam.
Though a lot about the film's actual story is still shrouded in mystery, we do know it'll help set up Dwayne Johnson's title character, a man who has traditionally served as an antagonist for Shazam, but who has also undergone something of a switch to anti-hero status. We're promised an origin story that explains his tough attitude to justice, while also introducing members of the Justice Society Of America, which includes Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone.
Dr. Fate AKA Kent Nelson, is a son of an archeologist who was taught powerful sorcery skills and given the magical Helmet of Fate. The character, created by Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman, is one of DC’s oldest, having first appeared in 1940’s More Fun Comics #5.
Jaume Collet-Serra is in the director's chair for the movie, which has a script currently by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani and should be filming in Atlanta next month, with The Rock posting a script page recently on Instagram.
