The Bill And Ted Team Say A Third Movie Is Closer Than Ever

Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure

The idea of a third Bill And Ted movie has been taunting us for years now, dancing just outside the edges of reality as the likes of Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves (AKA Bill S. Preston, esq. and Ted "Theodore" Logan) talked up the concept and development. Now, as part of Entertainment Weekly's Reunions series, it's creeping closer to happening after years of frustration.

Writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon (who created the 1989 original) talk up the fact that they have a script and that it's been close to getting made more than once. The idea, currently known as Bill And Ted Face The Music, catches up with the time-hopping, rock-loving explorers from the first film and Bogus Journey at a later stage in life, struggling with their destiny to create a utopia via some sweet tunes. "You’re told you’re gonna save the world," Matheson says. "And now you’re 50 and you haven’t done it. Now they’re married, and it affects their marriages, and it affects their relationships with their kids, and it affects their everything." "I think it’s kind of like A Christmas Carol with Bill and Ted," adds Solomon. "Looking at their lives, and really kind of rediscovering what they’re about."

Dean Parisot is aboard to direct, with Steven Soderbergh – yes, really, not an April Fool – on to produce, and plans for cameos from the likes of William Sadler's Grim Reaper. The team is hoping to have proper news to announce soon, so keep those fingers crossed and those air guitars handy. For more from Reeves and the rest, head to EW's site.
