It feels as though Netflix announces a new film every other day at the moment, and the streaming service has just kicked off production on its latest, based-on-truth football drama The Beautiful Game, which boasts Bill Nighy and Small Axe's Micheal Ward in the main roles.

Me Before You's Thea Sharrock is directing from Frank Cottrell-Boyce's script, and the story follows a team of English homeless footballers, led by their coach Mal (Nighy), who travel from London to Rome to compete in a global annual football tournament – The Homeless World Cup. At the last minute they decide to bring with them a talented striker Vinny (Ward), but he must confront his own issues and once-promising past, in order to help the team win the cup and move on with his own life. In Rome just as in life, everything’s to play for.

It's based on the real-life Homeless World Cup, which aims to raise awareness of the issues and help those without a place to live around the world.

The cameras are rolling now in Rome, and the cast also includes Valeria Golino, Callum Scott Howells, Kit Young and Sheyi Cole.
