Having already seen success as a writer, producer and actor in shows including Master Of None and Parks And Recreation, comedian Aziz Ansari is now taking on the role of director. As reported in Deadline, his debut feature has been confirmed as a (currently untitled) dramedy for Searchlight – and it will star none other than legendary Ghostbusters and Lost In Translation star Bill Murray, alongside Ansari himself.
The film will be based on surgeon Atul Gawande’s 2014 non-fiction book Being Mortal: Medicine And What Matters In The End, in which the author tackles how medicine can contribute to both life and death, addresses end-of-life care, and shares his personal reflections and stories from his time in the profession. That’s all we know so far – the title, plot, and Murray and Ansari’s characters are still under wraps. Two-time Emmy-winning Ansari is also a writer and producer on the project, and it’s currently scheduled for theatrical release in 2023.
