And so, it came to pass, on the 28th day of the fourth month of 2010, that Summit Entertainment did announce that Bill Condon has indeed agreed to direct a film – or possibly two - based upon Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series novel Breaking Dawn.
Okay, enough with the portentous and frankly pretentious language... It’s official: Deadline is reporting that Condon’s aboard.
“I'm very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book - and we're hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience,” said Condon in the release statement.
Yes, a one-of-a-kind book that features a half-human/half-vampire hybrid baby with psychic super-intelligence and a growth rate that most weeds would envy. Oh, and the baby girl nearly kills Bella during birth, while Jacob imprints upon the child in a creepy way.
There’s still no definitive word on whether the adaptation will run to one or two films – Melissa Rosenberg is still writing the script, and making the series run to five movies instead of four will mean some hefty paycheques for the cast. But given the box office power of the films to date, it’s likely Summit will spring for it…
